Do you find yourself scratching your head? Generally, in winters people tend to scratch their heads a lot. It’s really so common because our skin tends to dry. When the skin dries, it contracts and produces less amount of oil. These dry skin on the scalp or diseases such as psoriasis can cause an itchy scalp. Since the itching and scratching can lead to excess hair fall.
People often go to the shop and pick an anti-dandruff shampoo. I have a request for those people. Do read the back side of the shampoo to look at the ingredients. Most common cause of Itchy scalp :
There can be many reasons for having an itchy scalp. Itchy scalp brings the urge to scratch your head which leads to hair fall. Hair fall is so common when you don’t follow any hygienic routine.
- Dry Skin
- Fungal Infection like tenia capitis
- seborrheic dermatitis
- lichen planus
all these can cause intense itching.
Itchy scalp treatment with basic home remedies:
Today I will be sharing with you some recipes to get rid of itchy scalp. I have personally tried these recipes on my hubby. As he never likes to apply hair oil and always ends up with dandruff.
Coconut oil with vitamin E:
The most common problems of the dry scalp are by not applying much oil to the scalp. In return, the scalp gets dried up and leads to lots of flaky skin. The flaky skin when mixes with the sweat, leads to itching and infections. Coconut oil provides good moisture to the skin. It helps to reduce dry scalp, as a result, the itchiness decrease. It helps to sooth the skin.
Vitamin E is a fat-soluble antioxidant which helps to rejuvenate hair. It contains a group of compounds that include tocopherols and tocotrienols.
The best time to apply this recipe is at night. Because no one is going to see your hairstyle.
Ingredients for Coconut oil with Vitamin E :
- 5 tbsp of coconut oil
- 2-3 drops of rosemary oil
- 2 capsules of vitamin E (#Evion 400/600)
- 1 tbsp of castor oil
Take a bowl and add all the oils (coconut, castor) as listed above. Microwave it or heat it for 3 minutes. Apply the hair oil for at least 2 hours. If you can apply it for the whole night, it’s better, It will get time to absorb in the skin and give you a better result. And in the morning you can wash your hair with an SLS free shampoo.
Aloe vera juice with mustard oil :
Aloe vera is a wonder plant. It has plenty of hair health benefits. As, It contains plenty of vitamins, minerals, essential amino acids, and fatty acids. It really works best with seborrheic dermatics, means itchy scalp. It helps to reduce infections and heals the rashes which sometimes burns after itching the scalp. Aloe vera juice helps in hair growth and even controls hair fall.
Ingredients for Aloe vera juice with mustard oil :
- One cup aloe vera juice
- 2 drops of essential oil
- 5 tbsp of mustard oil
Take all the ingredients in a blender or mix it with a hand blender. Make a smooth paste of it. Apply it on washed hair, or wet hair for at least 30 minutes. Rinse hair with a mild shampoo or just with simple lukewarm water. To get better results, apply it twice a week. Also, this is one of my favorite hair masks as I personally recommend to everyone.
Onion juice with drops of neem oil :
Onion juice contains the goodness of sulfur. It helps to improve hair growth by boosting the level of antioxidant. As a result, onion juice nourishes the hair follicle for regeneration of hair. It does have antibacterial properties helps to keep the scalp free of infection. As a result, it reduces flaky skin on the scalp.
Ingredients for Onion juice with drops of neem oil :
- 1-2 onions (peel it and blend it to extract the juice)
- 4 drops of neem oil
If neem oil is not available, use leaves of neem. Just take a few leaves and boil them to remove the extract. And add 2 tbsp of neem extracts to the onion juice. The fresh onion juice helps to treat dandruff. Take the required amount to apply to the roots of your hair. Leave it for at least 30 minutes. Finally, wash it off with lukewarm water. If the strong smell stays, wash hair with a mild shampoo.
Castor oil with lemon drops:
Castor oil is also called as arandi ka tel in India. It contains the goodness of anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, moisturizing properties. Nowadays no one wants to apply castor oil as its quite thick and sticky. But trust me guys it really helps to reduce itchy scalp. I always try to add some amount of castor oil with my regular oil. It does help to reduce flaky skin.
Lemon has antiseptic properties. It banishes unwanted dandruff causing bacteria and fungus. people do prefer to apply lemon directly on hair. But I don’t recommend it because lemon contains a high amount of acid in it. and the skin of the head is too thin to take it. It’s better to apply it with a oil so that it can spread equally to the whole scalp. And does the work with a mild acidic reaction.
First of all, it has an anti-inflammatory property which helps in treating irritated skin. Castor oil contains triglycerides, which maintains moisture in the skin. As a result, the scalp stays hydrated and does not get dry.
Ingredients for Castor oil with lemon drops :
- 4-5 tbsp of castor oil
- few drops of lemon juice
Take a clean bowl with the listed ingredients. Warm the oil in the microwave for 2-3 minutes. Apply the oil on the tips of your hair. Before applying the hair oil make sure to clean your scalp. If you have frizzy and dry ends then apply castor oil towards the ends also. It will moisturize your hair. The oil is quite thick, so do keep it applied for at least 3-5 hours and then wash it off.
